Oh the updates

Sorry for the lack of posting!! I was in the process of switching from my old laptop to my new one. So far, I’m liking this cute Sony Vaio (it’s pink of course!). Unfortunately, I failed to double check my external hard drive to ensure that ALL of my photos made it. I lost about 2,000 of my personal photos during the move. However, since I’ve been upgrading technology, I decided to purchase a new camera, the Sony NEX5. It’s time to start some new memories, and this time, I’ll be backing them up as I go!!

The camera also takes video, so you can expect some more-than-likely-really awkward videos for my online shop when the camera finally arrives on my doorstep.

I’ve also begun working at my old elementary school, alongside my lovely mother. It’s only a couple of hours a day, longer if I substitute for a yard duty, but it gives me ample time to work on my business. Which, speaking of- Below, you’ll find some social networking links so that you can connect with my lil shop! Go ahead and click them, follow, like, and interact<3

A too cute swim suit

Bathing suits with retro cuts are totally flattering and enhance your natural curves. I would definitely rock this suit during the warmer months. While it would leave awkward tan lines, I think that’s a risk I’d be willing to take.

Available at modcloth.com for $89.99

It’s my birthday!

Today I am no longer a teenager. I am 20 years old and it’s strange to think about! I’m between being a child, and being an adult. It’s time to step up my game and get going with my dreams. Want to help with that??;)

For my birthday, I’d LOVE if you’d like my online shop on Facebook. Just click HERE. It’ll take a few seconds and make me a very happy girl!!

Go ahead and use code march20 to receive 20% off of your entire purchase<3 www.AmbryLane.com

20 questions

1. What was the first thing you did this morning?
Read the good night text I received from my boyfriend after I had fallen asleep
2. What is your favorite cereal?
That’s tough!! It depends on my mood!
3. Would you rather marry a millionaire that is unfaithful or middle class worker that only has eyes for you?
The guy that only has eyes for me OBVIOUSLY!! I’m no gold digger!!!
4. Would you rather have a job that requires strength of the body or the mind?
Definitely of the mind.
5. How old were you when you had your first kiss?
I was 15.
6. If you were the opposite sex for a day, what would be the first thing you’d do?
Honestly, I’d probably look in my pants and then go chill with the guys! aha.
7. What is the scariest thing that has ever happened in your life (that you can share)?
I’ve been fortunate to have an amazing, happy life and nothing scary comes to mind.
8. Would you ever consider plastic surgery?
Perhaps!! It really just depends on where and why.
9. What skill do you feel is stronger: your math skills or your english skills?
Oh, my English skills by far. My brain just wasn’t built for math!!
10. Do you follow the Presidential race?
I never have. If I feel passionately one way or the other, I may. Usually I am not 100% for or against either side.
11. Do you consider yourself more of a liberal or a conservative?
I’d probably be considered more liberal, but I wouldn’t label myself as either because my beliefs are all over the place!
12. If you could spend a day in another person’s body, living their life; who would it be and why?
Oh gosh! I’ve always hated these types of questions. Could I just be a bird?? aha.
13. If you had to choose, would you rather be blind or deaf?
I love music, but I love reading 100 times more. So, I’d rather be deaf. KNOCK ON WOOD!!!
14. Who is the one person who can always make you laugh?
My boyfriend. I couldn’t be with someone who couldn’t make me laugh 99% of the time!
15. If you and a member of the opposite sex were the last people on earth, but they looked like Cruella Deville and Mister Ed had a baby, would you procreate? (Just to populate the earth)?
That’s a hard one!! It would depend on the state of the Earth and if I thought humans could live happily again, or not.
16. What are you passionate about?
It’s funny to think about. I would like to think I’m passionate about my business. But, the reality is that I find passion in the most random of places. Passion comes in both anger and happiness, and I must say, I have found my fair share of passion in both.
17. Do you believe in abortion?
While I think that babies are completely adorable and deserve to live, I also think that the decision is up to the mother and father. The best solution would to give the baby up for adoption, but I know that’s not always a choice for some. I would never deny any woman the right of abortion. As someone who can easily place herself into another’s shoes, I refuse to view things such as abortion one sided.
18. Imagine you’re an inmate waiting on death row. What would you request for your last meal?
Chicken chow mien, orange chicken, spring rolls. For dessert I’d ask for mint chocolate chip ice cream. Basically my birthday dinner for tonight!
19. What is the one trait that is mandatory in a potential partner?
I need honesty. I’ve been in a relationship that destroyed my ability to trust, and with one lie, it would bring me back to that state of mistrust. If you love someone, you don’t lie to them. Period.
20. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
I see myself happily married with kids. I see myself waking up each morning to work in my store. I see a happy life ahead, but not without hard work and determination. Bring it on!!!

My opinion on making Kony “famous”

Today is Wishlist Wednesday, but I do not wish to talk about something I think would look nice in my closet. Today I’d just like to talk about Kony 2012. Here’s my opinion on the matter.

I’d like to start by saying how happy it makes me to see everyone banding together for one cause. It’s truly great. Everyone is sharing the same video and the same pictures on their corner of the internet in hopes that it’ll raise awareness. Many are even posting about covering the night, where they will cover a city with posters and stickers. Everyone, in this moment, is feeling warm and fuzzy in their efforts.

I feel that Kony shouldn’t be the only one targeted in this. What about the president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni? He came into office around the same time that Kony began. Would president Obama over see the fact that thousands of children were being stolen in order to become soldiers and sex slaves? If so, would we keep him in office? NO. NO. NO.

We shouldn’t be asking for the attention of celebrities and US policy makers, we should be asking for the attention of Uganda’s president!! What has he been doing about this?? I would very much like to see a video about that.

I have a question for all of these Kony 2012 advocates. When did you hear about the non-profit organization Invisible Children? A week ago? Three days ago? Today? When you saw all of the posts about Kony and looked him up? It’s sad to me, because this organization has been around for many years now. However, did you know that only 32% of donations goes towards the cause? Did you know that the rest (approximately $1 million) goes towards funding the founder’s traveling expenses? Another $1 million goes towards their film making. They are NOT upfront with their profits and have been given a rating of 2 stars.

Why is it that a crime such as the horrific child abuse happening in Uganda, must be made “famous”  in order to gain our attention? Why does it need to become marketed? Why didn’t we read the articles about this problem years ago, and subsequently, why didn’t we spread the word then? This is OLD news.

Instead of reblogging images and videos, instead of sharing them on Facebook, why don’t we do something about it? I’m talking about taking action instead of simply spreading the word.

Are we no longer creative human beings? Can’t we sell items we’ve made in order to raise money for the cause (do NOT donate to Invisible Children)? Can we think of no other action than lifting a finger to click the “share” button?

If you cannot, perhaps you should power down your computer TODAY and go down to the local food bank. Go door to door to collect blankets and jackets for our homeless children. Donate your time to an organization wishing to help those in your own neighborhood. If you want to help the people of the world, maybe you should begin in your own town.

Sex trafficking happens WORLDWIDE. Child abuse is in your backyard. Yes, let’s stop the horrible acts occurring in Uganda, but why not stop it EVERYWHERE? Why is everyone banding together to stop ONE man, ONE country, ONE problem…when we’ve been enlightened to other situations by television and news articles for years and years?

Maybe we need fancy videos that pull at our heart strings. Maybe we need a big organization behind a cause in order to feel as if we can do something about it.

There are organizations in Uganda that have been stopping Kony for years now. While the Invisible Children video let’s you think that 30,000 children are currently involved, it has dwindled to less than 10,000 in recent years. This is STILL a problem, but is continuously being taken care of.

Don’t overlook the nightmares of the rest of the world. Devote a day to aiding the people of the country you live in.

Bunnies come out to play

Today is warm and clear, and on days like these, I love taking the bunnies out to run around in the backyard. We’ve had many rabbits before (up to 7 at once!) and they’ve all been able to run free in the yard. They really hate having to live in a cage!! These babies are still too young and little to play wild hare, so we just take them out when we have time to watch them. Plus, our big bunny, Xena, doesn’t really like two rambunctious babies leaping all around her. She chases them with her back legs dragging behind her (she’s old and cripple now), and bites them!! OUCH! We are planning on keeping them apart for a LONG time! :]

Sharing some lettuce!

Now, I’m going to continue sorting through my room to get rid of the junk I don’t need. I usually keep everything, especially clothes, thinking “I may use this in the future”. Guess what? I never do! It’s time to clean my life of clutter and things I won’t miss.

While I’m in my room cleaning and organizing, I hope you all can go out and enjoy the beautiful day!!

Materialism

In 9th grade, I took a cultural anthropology class. The classroom was lined with enlarged photos showing the belongings of various families, strewn out among their front yard. The photos showed the average house hold of 30 different countries and cultures. On the back of each poster, information was listed about each home, including the number of electronics owned. It’s a very interesting concept, and extremely surprising to see.

Here are some examples of project Material World: A Global Family Portrait. To read information about each photo, and to see more by Peter Menzel, click HERE.

For most of us, we could probably survive with half of what we own, if not less. Be thankful for everything, but more importantly, don’t put so much value onto your material items. At the end of the day, friends and family are what matter most. Don’t forget that!!

Hey March, nice to see yaa!

It’s my favorite month, and not only because my birthday is involved. March gives me a good feeling that I can’t explain. It’s not winter, nor is it spring. It’s an inbetween. Pisceans, like myself, feel rejuvenated during this time. It’s almost as if our own, personal stars are aligned. So, welcome March<3

I’m hoping that I’ll be able to visit the San Francisco aquarium on my birthday. For dinner my family and I will be eating some delicious Chinese food, and for dessert we’ll have mint chocolate chip ice cream and chocolate Texas sheet cake. YUUM!!

xoxo
